I have always believed in the death penalty. Although dead man walking did not change my opinion on the death penalty entirely, it did influence me to reevaluate my opinions. I originally believed that anyone who raped, or murdered someone should face the death penalty, but now I believe that only people who have committed several rapes and murders should face the death penalty. I came to this change in opinion because dead man walking made me look at these criminals as people, not just murderers, after all everyone makes mistakes, and even though murder and rape are huge "mistakes" they should not be killed just for one terrible act of violence, but should be placed in prison for the rest of their life.
I think that it is important for activities and assignments in your college courses challenge your previous opinions because college is supposed to be a time where we grow as a person, in our opinions, and become more educated, and a big part in doing this is to challenge your opinions, and in by doing so you become more educated in those beliefs, you may not change your opinions, but you will no longer have those opinions out of ignorance but out of a well educated point of view.
